At Smartroof we invest heavily in competence training and qualifications for our installers, ensuring they receive all the support and expert advice they need in order to deliver a high quality prefabricated roof installation that we are proud to put our name to.
In order to raise industry standards and set a bench mark for quality, precision and best practise we have developed an NVQ that focuses on the skills required to carry out pre-assembled roof structure installations and also developed a Smartroof Installation app.
Smartroof NVQ
The Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Wood Occupations (Construction) Pre-assembled Roof Structure Installer was developed by Smartroof, in partnership with the Construction Industry Training Board (CITB). This NVQ provides timber frame installers with the essential practical skills and underpinning knowledge required to carry out pre-assembled roof structure installations.
As an innovative, customer-focused and progressive company that strives to improve the service it provides to the house builder, Smartroof require all of their ‘room in roof’ installers to complete the NVQ. This requirement ensures that all Smartroof installers are fully trained and competent to install the Smartroof system.
The NVQ includes the following mandatory units:
- Erecting roof structure carcassing components in the workplace.
- Slinging and hand signalling the movement of suspended loads
in the workplace. - Conforming to general health, safety and welfare in the workplace.
- Conforming to productive working practices in the workplace.
- Moving and handling resources in the workplace.
- Erecting timber roof structures in the workplace.
Become a Registered Installer
Four Easy Steps To Become a Registered Smartroof Installer:

Smartroof will visit your site to discuss full installation process from pre-start requirements to final sign-off.

Accompany Smartroof team on first installation of your roof.

Install your own Smartroof system with supervision from Smartroof contracts manager.
4
Receive certificate to confirm Smartroof Registered Installer Status.
Minimum requirements to become a Smartroof Registered Installer:
- Installers must comply with Smartroof Risk Assessment and Method Statement (RAMS)
- The Smartroof system can be installed by a team of 3, all with suitable harness training and CPCS certification.
This team must include:
- Crane Appointed Person (if no CAP, contract lift must be provided though crane company).
- Crane Supervisor
- Slinger Banksman
To ensure we maintain the highest possible installation standards, all Smartroof installers are subject to ongoing random site checks.

Striving to have the best installation teams in the industry we have developed a specific Smartroof mobile app that provides our installers with instant access to comprehensive product information, standard construction details and installation videos. This helps ensure compliance of quality and health and safety standards through the entire Smartroof process from prestart meetings to final sign off.
The app is designed to ensure the site safety checklist is implemented in the appropriate sequence. Results of all checks are recorded on the app and reports are automatically sent to the site manager and logged at Smartroof head office.
