A ‘Fabric First’ Approach to Meeting Building Regulations

As experts in your field where innovation is core to your business we understand the value placed on innovative products that meet and exceed building regulations.

smartroof offers consistent and predictable thermal performance that can be computer modelled in advance to accurately assess the thermal efficiency of individual buildings at the design stage. The smartroof system’s interlocking design, which is inherently air tight, makes it an ideal roof solution for those developers adopting a fabric first approach to meeting levels 4, 5 and 6 of the Code for Sustainable Homes and proposed building regulations introduced in 2013 and 2014.

In traditional structures the junctions between elements of the building fabric often require special detailing so as not to compromise the overall SAP calculation, but smartroof’s factory insulated panels eliminate voids or cold spots and mean no time lost waiting for materials or trades. Production of the smartroof system in a factory environment makes it easier to enforce strict quality standards more effectively than with multi-trade teams on-site.

Traditional roofs can require a thick packing of insulation, which in turn can impact the bargeboard detailing; a common pet hate for architects. In comparison, the smartroof solution is much more slender and offers significant increases in design flexibility as its insulation levels can be easily upgraded once design specifications have been established to achieve future-proof U-values as low as 0.09w/m2K.
